"Smile You Son Of A..."

This is another a piece that went into the sketch book.. I spent a long time on this one.. Mostly because I was liking it so much I did not want to finish it. The blue tint to the pencil was added in Photoshop just for kicks. It is a piece I am definantly proud of and I am hoping to make it into a full on painting when I get a chance(famous last words of an artist right?)

Some new sketch cards

I was lucky enough to have my buddy Grant hook me up with new Sketch cards just in time for WWLA. These were some Test cards that saw their way to being sold right after I posted them around.

Saruman Saturday

First Post...

Ok, so this is my first post here and I decided to make it a doozy...

1st, New webstrip at Hyperspace begins Monday. "Evasive Action:Prey" is the continuing story of our Padawan's; Drake, Ekria and Zonder. This strip will also feature Xizor and Boushh. Lots of fun to do this time out since the format for the strip will be A LOT bigger...

You'll see.

Making of Rick McCallum

Sorry I have not been around - just frantically busy at the moment.

I really liked Grant's "making-of" version of the Galactica illustration. I really enjoy seeing how people get the the end product sometimes even more than I do seeing the finished thing (a bit like a lot of movies because I will sometimes get a DVD just to see the 'behind the scenes'). I tend to think there is so much to learn from working notes so perhaps we should share those processes here as well.

That said, here are two pix from an illustration I did for Rick McCallum. The pic I chose to use for his face was only available as a black and white and in very poor quality, so I used a different color photograph as a reference for the flesh tones.

Did I mention I'm a biologist?

Referenced from a boneclones photo. I WISH I had a gila monster replica skull to go with my collection of non replica skulls (Which are missing teeth from a move because I forgot to glue them in. argh. How do you lose a frickin' gopher tooth or a cat fang? i don't know!).

Anyhoo, skull. Ballpoint pen.
